Transitional Housing Residents may stay up to two years while they address issues that contributed to their homelessness. While there, they are able to work towards stability, education and training, and find employment to meet their needs. A wide range of supportive services, including case management, education, mental health, employment and substance abuse aftercare services are available to help residents succeed. Follow-up is provided for up to six months after they leave to help them successfully overcome all obstacles to independence and stability.

In November of 2003 the Holland Rescue Mission began a Transitional Housing Program for the graduates of the LifeApplication program. The concept behind this area of ministry is to provide continued accountability at a reduced housing cost for participants. The Transitional Housing units are located on the 2nd floor of the Men's Center, with 12 mini apartments available and apartments are also available on-site at our Fairbanks location for women and families. The rent is on a sliding scale to increase as clients reach a more stable income level. Our goal is to provide assistance while equipping them to be on their own.

Did you know that nearly half of the homeless we help at our shelter are children? It is sobering to think of innocent babies, toddlers, elementary, middle-schoolers and teenagers wandering the streets with their mothers because of abuse, neglect, poor decisions or a crisis that left them homeless. We welcome them at the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, helping them to discover the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. During their stay with us, we feed them three nutritious meals each day, provide them with bedding and personal hygiene items, clothe them and support families while parents learn  job skills and find work. The women and children who stay with us have a bedroom, bathroom, lounge/common area, dining area, playground and laundry facilities to use while they are here. We can accommodate up to 54 women and children and they typically stay for an average of 30-45 days.

The agency owns houses and an apartment complex available to clients as safe, affordable housing opportunities.
