Founded in 1970, Berkeley Food and Housing Project has worked to ease and end the crisis of homelessness for men, women, and children in the Berkeley community. With programs ranging from free meal service to permanent supportive housing, BFHP provides a continuum of care to accommodate a broad spectrum of specialized needs.BFHP assists low-income and homeless individuals with needs and disabilities that are not effectively met by mainstream social services. At Banyan House, we have private rooms with baths for eight families, with communal dining, living room, and outdoor space.  FESCO provides meals and on-site case management and mental health counseling.  Families enrolled in this program are reviewed every 30 days and may stay here for 5 months. Extensions are given on a case by case basis with a maximum stay of 10 months.

If working, they are required to put a portion of their wages into savings. In addition, the transitional living program offers classes for basic life skills such as cooking, banking, money management, health issues and communication. Our Los Angeles campus has 24 beds for this program and the Bay Area has twelve.
