To ease and end the crisis of homelessness in our community, Berkeley Food and Housing Project provides emergency food and shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, and housing placement with support services to homeless individuals and families. Founded in 1970, Berkeley Food and Housing Project has worked to ease and end the crisis of homelessness for men, women, and children in the Berkeley community. With programs ranging from free meal service to permanent supportive housing, BFHP provides a continuum of care to accommodate a broad spectrum of specialized needs.BFHP assists low-income and homeless individuals with needs and disabilities that are not effectively met by mainstream social services. The agency hallmark is to provide services with compassion to foster a nurturing, healing environment that can effectively end an individual’s cycle of homelessness.

Shepherd’s Gate provides shelter and resources for women and children displaced by abuse, financial hardships, and addictions.

In Oakland, Cityteam International is carrying on the work that the Oakland Peniel Mission began in 1897, providing hot meals, safe shelter, showers, and clean clothing to this city's homeless population. CityTeam International in Oakland also has a wonderful, caring medical staff that provides medical attention for those in need. A recovery program is in place for men that are on a road of destruction from drugs and alcohol. Our community outreach comes alongside low income families in Oakland struggling to make ends meet. Our Learning Center is bridging the gap in education, equipping those we serve to succeed in life.

Rosa Parks serves single homeless adults with multiple disabilities.

At Banyan House, we have private rooms with baths for eight families, with communal dining, living room, and outdoor space.  FESCO provides meals and on-site case management and mental health counseling.  Families enrolled in this program are reviewed every 30 days and may stay here for 5 months. Extensions are given on a case by case basis with a maximum stay of 10 months.

The Livermore Campus, with its two Residence Halls and five two-bedroom cottages, can care for up to 70 women and children at a time. Shepherd’s Gate’s Corporate Office is located on this campus

At André House the majority of our clientele are single, homeless adults. In Maricopa County, 4251 people live in Permanent Supported Housing, 7555 live in shelters, and 2587 are “unsheltered,” (living on the street) (Department of Economic Security, 2010)

In our transitional living program, a youth takes the initial steps in living independently. To qualify for the program, a youth must be in school or working full-time. If working, they are required to put a portion of their wages into savings. In addition, the transitional living program offers classes for basic life skills such as cooking, banking, money management, health issues and communication. Our Los Angeles campus has 24 beds for this program and the Bay Area has twelve.
