Naomi's House (for Women)
Fresno, CA - 93706
(559) 498-6988

Over the years of operation of Poverello House, staff, board and the community saw a need for overnight shelter for single homeless women. While it was recognized that there are excellent local programs for homeless women, demand greatly exceeded capacity. In addition, it was recognized that there were women who do not avail themselves of these programs – due primarily to advanced substance abuse and/or severe, persistent mental illness. Unfortunately, these women’s only option is to live on the streets where they are subjected to violence, sexual abuse and exploitation.Naomi’s House at Poverello specifically targets these women, offering them an overnight shelter in a relaxed atmosphere, where is structure, but it is minimal. The first and most important task with these women is the development of a trusting relationship. Only through trust can these women begin to address the path that led to homelessness and begin to reconstruct their lives. In addition to shelter, the women are provided with Poverello House/Holy Cross Center for Women Campus services – meals, showers, laundry and medical/dental care. Other services at Naomi’s House include a strengths-based needs assessment, goal planning, social service advocacy, case management, limited transportation and education regarding issues endemic to women and homelessness.Naomi’s House is located within the Poverello House Campus at 445 F Street; adjacent to Holy Cross Center for Women, across the street from Poverello House. The facility consists of the original 864 square foot house and modular units behind the house. The total shelter capacity is 24.
