Mission-Transition House is dedicated to the solution of family homelessness in the Santa Barbara community. Capable and motivated families with children are offered respectful, non-sectarian residential services and the life skills needed to alleviate their poverty, and to restore self-sufficiency and dignity.

The Family Transitional Shelter was developed in response to the growing need of a program to assist families who are in limbo due to socio and economic hardship. Parents are without shelter for themselves and their children, and many times have lost a job as well. A case manager helps families develop a goal-oriented program that allows them to attain skills in money management, parents and budgeting. Education is stressed and many of the clients return to school to get their high school diploma and/or enroll in the local community college. With guidance from the case manager and commitment from families, their lives become stable and can move forward towards a happy, productive future full of promise.

The objective of the program is to deliver drug-free babies and assist in the healing process of women and their children who have been affected by substance abuse. This program is designed for pregnant and parenting women with dual diagnosis issues.

30 days or more of sobriety preferred. If less than one year, the CSL resident will be required to enroll in a treatment program for at least 6 months. If unemployed, the resident will have 60 days to secure employment unless medically or psychologically unable.

Permanent Affordable Housing – Transition House families with long range goals of achieving lasting economic self-sufficiency can apply for placement in one of 26 low-cost apartments owned by Transition House. Services including career monitoring, case management and educational enhancement continue to be provided. At the end of two years, the family reaches an income level that enables them to afford market-rate housing. Heads of the household become fully invested in jobs they care about. Savings accrue. The family becomes self-sufficient.
