The Mission of IHN Athens is to mobilize our community to help homeless families in crisis situations achieve sustainable independence. It is the goal of IHN Athens to give homeless families the opportunity to stay together as a family and the time and resources to get back on their feet.

Peace Place, Inc. brings together advocates, donors, volunteers, community partners, allied organizations and supportive individuals who are committed to ending domestic violence. Guided by the voices of survivors, we work to create safe communities in Jackson, Banks, and Barrow counties through the provision of safe shelter and supportive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence.

The Open Door Community is a residential community in the Catholic Worker tradition (we’re sometimes called a Protestant Catholic Worker House). We seek to dismantle racism, sexism and heterosexism, abolish the death penalty, and proclaim the Beloved Community through loving relationships with some of the most neglected and outcast of God’s children: the homeless and our sisters and brothers who are in prison.

Independent Living – Rights of Passage (ROP):Rights of Passage is our independent living facility. It is a passage, but it's not the finish line. ROP is a long-term housing (up to 24 months) program designed to build upon the existing case plan developed at our Crisis Shelter. Housed within a mainstream apartment complex, the program features 21 double-occupancy apartments housing 42 beds. South Fulton and Gwinnett have well run ROP facilities.

Women have a different outlook on life than men and therefore respond to different therapeutic processes and experience a different set of challenges during the treatment process. Our thorough screening and assessment of the women who come to our treatment programs will allow our team of clinical experts to provide her with a personalized curriculum of recovery activities to give her the best possible chance at achieving long-term abstinence.

Open Door's Transition Home for Women in Crisis is the oldest transitional housing program in our area. It provides a structured environment for adult homeless women for up to two years. Each resident must be employed, actively seeking employment, or attending school, and participate in the Community Case Management Program. The goal of the program is for each woman to obtain sustainable income, permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Emergency Shelter provides immediate temporary housing for those in the most need. The emergency shelter targets homeless men and women with children. Emergency shelter stay is a 90 day program and is designed to offer immediate relief from having citizens live on the street, in their cars, in abandoned houses, underneath bridges or other places not meant for human habitation.Grace House: 32 emergency shelter beds for men.

Tenant Independence Program – transitional housing for adults and families living with HIV/ AIDS – various sites.

Transitional housing is available to the women as they take their first steps towards independence. Transitional housing includes ongoing case management, counseling, group support, referrals, and advocacy.

Our approach to the fight against domestic violence combines energy of the heart with a commitment to evaluation and attention to operational efficiencies. (See our annual report available on this website for outcome data).  90 cents of every dollar contributed to Project Safe goes to programs and services directly benefiting battered women and children.    We keep overhead costs low by utilizing volunteers and student interns, seeking in-kind donations of goods and services rather than purchasing them, and sharing tasks such as answering the telephone instead of employing an office manager or administrator.

The goal of the Stewart Community Home (SCH) is to provide a safe haven for a very special needs population of the Chattahoochee Valley. That special needs population consists of chronically mentally ill, physically disabled, and elderly individuals who are homeless and do not qualify for other agency assistance.

The Ben and Bettye Barnes Center: 10 unit permanent supportive housing for homeless women with disabilities.

The Don and Kaye Kole Women’s Center: 6 unit permanent supportive housing for homeless women with disabilities

Daniel-Flagg Villas: supportive housing apartments (10) for persons living with HIV/AIDS
