Wheeler Mission Ministries is a non-denominational, Christian, social services organization, which provides critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy of central Indiana without regard to race, color, creed, national origin or religion.Founded in 1893, Wheeler is the oldest continuously operating ministry of its kind in the state of Indiana.

IHN's mission is to serve homeless families by uniting faith community volunteers and local agencies in a cooperative effort to provide shelter, meals, and comprehensive, compassionate and ongoing support.

Lafayette Transitional Housing Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization which began in 1988 to develop housing, offer supportive services, and other opportunities to foster self-sufficiency for the homeless, particularly families with children, in our community. LTHC is comprised of four separate programs: The Self-Sufficiency Program, Family Program, Singles Program and the Lincoln Center Supportive Housing Program. The goal of all of the programs is to help the homeless learn the needed skills, so they may be able to maintain employment and housing.

Backstreet Missions provides a short-term emergency shelter for the homeless and extended stays for those who are committed to setting positive goals and pursuing a better life style. In all of our programs here we strive to help those who want to help themselves.

Goals Track – This is for individuals or families who stay at the Faith Mission longer than 14 days. It is a program track designed to help clients develop the skills necessary to break the cycle of homelessness. The Goals Track works in conjunction with other community agencies to which residents are referred to get assistance. It can take 6-12 months to complete. Discipleship Track – This is for individuals or families who stay at Faith Mission longer than 14 days. It is a faith-based, life skills program track designed to help clients develop the skills necessary to break the cycle of homelessness and build a strong foundation in their faith. The Discipleship Track is designed with emphasis on the spiritual with some referrals to other community agencies. It takes 12-18 months to complete.

Providing Help and Hope for Homeless Women and Children at Open Arms

The 'face' of homeless men has been changing in recent years.  Regardless of demographics, the Kokomo Rescue Mission's Men's Shelter continues to offer hope to the hurting.  Whether a guest stays just one night or decides to remain longer, the mission staff works with each man to set goals and determine which program can help him accomplish those life changing goals. 

Transitional Housing is for those who have income but are unable at the moment to afford an apartment or conventional housing.   Those off the streets or those coming out of the emergency shelter can apply to enter the transitional program.  This has a fee of $50 per week and a $50 key deposit

Homeless men have been seeking shelter at the Muncie Mission since 1930, more than 80 years. The faces and circumstances have changed but the need remains the same: a clean, safe place where a man can evaluate his life and receive the help that is needed to begin again.

LightLife Program. The Light House Mission offers a long-term, 12-month recovery program to men and women suffering from alcoholism, drug abuse, and various emotional problems. This program provides a 10-step program in a structured environment that allows the person to progress through the recovery process with the guidance of a caring staff. The program deals with the acceptance of their circumstance and condition, and moves through an understanding that God and God alone can restore to them the life that has been forfeited.

Transitional Apartments. On the 3rd floor of the Wabash Avenue building, there are 19 one-bedroom apartments available for to single, low-income men who have completed the program and are employed. There is no other facility like this available to men in the Wabash Valley. We recently built 6 one-bedroom apartments for single women at 18th and Chestnut Streets for ladies finishing the program at our Conners Center.

At United Caring Shelters, we have a two year Transitional Housing Program designed for those who are highly motivated to leave homelessness behind and return to independent living in the community.  Utilizing 21 studio apartments on the third and fourth floors of our facility, we provide a residential setting with intensive Case Management, support and encouragement. Each apartment has a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living area. Each program participant is required to be employed and the rent is based on his income. The rent may be subsidized with HUD Section 8 Project based vouchers through the Evansville Housing Authority.

Wheeler Mission Ministries is more than a soup kitchen. We offer food, clothing, and shelter, but we're really here to change men's lives through the redeeming love of Jesus Christ. Wheeler's landmark shelter for men on North Delaware Street still stands, as it has for decades, as a battlework in the fight against homelessness.

Begun in the early 90's by a group of concerned businessmen, the Care Center merged with Wheeler Mission Ministries in 2001. In 2009, the Care Center was renamed the Center for Women & Children (CWC). The CWC provides an environment that is safe physically, emotionally and spiritually.

The Family Program offers both housing and case management to approximately 13-15 families at any one time. The housing consists of group home living for the first 3-6 months in the program, followed by a two-bedroom apartment. Families can stay at LTHC for approximately 18 months, while they work to become self-sufficient.  Each family pays rent, which is based on their income and circumstances. 

The Singles Program offers housing and case management to 15 men and 8 women. The housing is in a former nursing home facility, which allows each client their own furnished bedroom, and shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities. The Singles can stay at LTHC for approximately 12 months. Each resident pays rent, which is based on their income and circumstances.

CFH Landscape Services was launched in 1998 by the Center for the Homeless. This business provides competitive commercial landscape services to businesses in the Michiana area. It also provides a supportive and comprehensive job training environment through which homeless men and women can transition into the workforce, moving beyond and breaking the cycle of homelessness.

The O’Connor House accepts single, pregnant women over the age of 18 who are homeless and experiencing crisis. Women may stay for a period up to 18 months during her pregnancy and afterwards.

Bridges offers a comprehensive 18-24 month program which educates and empowers families in crisis to become stable and independent. Trained case management professionals help families overcome barriers, learn to budget and manage resources responsibly, and determine a realistic plan of action toward setting and meeting their goals. Over 90% of the families which participate in our program are able to provide stable, permanent housing for their families.

Shelter for clients is provided in two forms.  The largest capacity exists for providing emergency shelter for both single women and single men.  These areas are physically in different areas/floors of the home.  Beds exist to handle up to 66 individuals.  Emergency shelter is provided for up to thirty days. In addition, there is a separate housing unit on the property used to provide transitional housing to those qualifying women who need the additional support to move from an emergency shelter situation to independent living.  The qualifying individuals can reside in this housing unit for up to one year with timing dependent upon the individual’s situation.
