Mission-Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation provides housing assistance and supportive services to persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Mercy works to empower its clients to become independent, so they may live and work with dignity and respect. Mercy seeks to end homelessness by advocating for changes in the social systems that perpetuate homelessness. Mercy welcomes and serves all in need in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy , who founded the organization in 1983.

Community Renewal Team, Inc. is the Community Action Agency for Middlesex and Hartford Counties and is the largest non-profit provider of human services in Connecticut. The agency’s mission is Preparing Our Community to Meet Life’s Challenges. The mission is achieved each day by helping people and families become self-sufficient while making sure basic needs are met. CRT’s programs include Head Start, Meals on Wheels, energy assistance, supportive housing and shelters, and many others, serving people in more than 60 cities and towns in both our core catchment area and throughout Connecticut.

Hartford Transitional Housing Program (HTH):Thirty-three beds are available to men who are referred by Court Support Services Division to the Alternative Incarceration network with a stipulation of transitional housing for at least the first 30 days of their program commitment. Clients participate in day programming at the Hartford Alternative Incarceration Center. (Established 1989)

Transitional housing provides food and shelter while preparing residents to become competitive job seekers and eventually to manage their lives in order to live independently.

The CRT Project T.E.A.C.H. (Training Employment and Community Housing) program provides housing subsidies and supportive management services to 20 homeless single adults originating from homeless shelters, street or uninhabitable environment in the Greater Hartford Region. This program incorporates case management, life skills training, employment education, substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, money management and more. Clients participate in the program for two years, at which point they graduate and stay in apartments or move to other permanent housing.

The CRT Scattered-Site Supportive Housing Program is a permanent supportive housing program designed to provide housing assistance and supportive services to homeless individuals with disabilities.

The CRT Supportive Housing Collaborative provides housing subsidies and support management services for homeless families referred from shelters in the Greater Hartford region. Assistance includes case management, life skills training, employment and education, substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling and groups in areas such as money management, parenting skills, etc. Length of stay in the program is up to two years.

The Domestic Violence Supportive Housing program, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, provides rental subsidies and supportive housing services in scattered sites to six families who are leaving Interval House, a domestic violence shelter serving women and their families in the greater Hartford region.

Transitional Housing Program - Women and their children are able to stay in one of the 18 apartments in the building for up to two years.

Supportive Housing at Mary Townsend Seymour Apartments provides 30 one bedroom units to formerly homeless or low income men and women who are able to hold their own lease. Voluntary services are also available.

This is an 87 bed residential recovery program for homeless men.  Residents’ recovery plans include such elements as work therapy, support groups, relapse prevention, life skills training, employment preparation and job search assistance leading to full-time employment.  In an effort to enable these men to recover their dignity and responsibility, each client is required to work up to 40 hours a week for the first two weeks of the program in the agency’s Wood Products business.  After these two weeks, clients either continue to serve in Wood Products or assume assignments in food service, maintenance, or special projects until they obtain gainful employment.

This program accommodates up to 33 homeless men who are motivated to make substantive changes in their lives. Participants come from the shelter, the streets or other similar programs and can stay for up to 2 years while they pursue their goals. A Service Coordinator works with each resident to develop three or four goals which most often center around obtaining or increasing income, seeking or continuing treatment for mental or physical illness, substance abuse treatment or increasing education or training.

Soromundi Commons, a project of YWCA Hartford Region and Chrysalis Center, Inc.,includes 13 efficiency units and 35 affordable one-bedroom -apartments to those struggling with physical or mental disabilities, substance abuse and domestic or sexual abuse; who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless; and who have incomes at or below 50 percent of the state median.

Emergency Shelter:Residents of our 37-bed emergency shelter for men, women and children receive three meals per day and have use of laundry facilities. Each resident works with a service coordinator to develop a case action plan that may include: counseling, crisis intervention, goal setting, housing assistance and referrals services; e.g., substance abuse treatment, education, job training, child care or a combination thereof.Transitional Living Center:This is a six- to 24-month program for 15 single, homeless adults. Each participant is provided a room, case management and an individualized case action plan. The program serves people with mental health and substance abuse issues as well as education and employment challenges. The focus is the learning of life skills – the structure and support essential for independent living. Five rooms are for veterans.

The Moving On Project is a transitional living apartment program that assists male adolescents, ages 16 to 21, in developing the skills needed to live independently. For a 12- to 18- month period, the Moving On Project provides youth referred through the Department of Children and Families with a safe, caring, and nurturing environment, as well as practical instruction and assistance.

The Bridge Youth Shelter (originally called Junction 1019) opened in West Hartford in 1978. It has been one of the Bridge's flagship programs and has been consistently full. The program director at the West Hartford shelter is Maiya Pierre, a master's level social worker who has worked with both girls and boys at DCF and as a program director at a group home.

Coventry Place is an affordably priced community for low income seniors. Our community includes a computer lab, recreation spaces, and laundry facilities.

The CRT Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides subsidized housing and supportive services to homeless families with children. As long as funding is available and program requirements are met, families may remain in program until they can maintain an apartment or move to other permanent housing.

Plimpton House, located at 847 Asylum Avenue is a licensed rooming house that provides housing for up to 35 adults.  As a congregate facility, Plimpton House provides residents with a community living environment that facilitates their independence.
